David is a Patrol Sergeant with a local Southern Illinois Police Department with 24 years of law enforcement experience. He has served as a Firearms Instructor and SWAT Team Leader with 18 years of Tactical Team experience. He has served hundreds of high risk warrants and has deployed on several hostage and barricaded gunman incidents.
David began his police career in Decatur, IL as a patrolman in 1994 after graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy (for local law enforcement). He worked midnights during his four years in the patrol division and was also assigned as a member of the Decatur Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) in 1997.
David moved back to his hometown of Carterville, IL in 1998 after being hired by the Carbondale Police Department. He continued to work in the patrol division and was assigned to Carbondale's Special Response Team (S.R.T.) in 2000.
JD is a retired federal law enforcement officer with 29 years of service. He began his career in 1983 in the US Army Military Police Corps where he was attached to NATO on the United States’ military representative to NATO’s protective services detail. During this time, he experienced a terrorist car bombing of a NATO building (in 1985).
After leaving the army, JD went to work for the United States Department of Justice in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He became an instructor for the Disturbance Control Team in 1993 which involved teaching riot control techniques to all staff. He was a team leader for the Disturbance Control Team as well. After several years of teaching unarmed fighting techniques, he switched to firearms instruction in 2005. He was trained to be a firearms instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
After four years as a firearms instructor, he returned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center to become a Lead Firearms Instructor. After being appointed a Lead Firearms Instructor, he supervised the range at the United States Penitentiary in Marion, IL training not only the staff but also training with other federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, US Marshalls, US Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service, the VA police, and US Probation. During this time, he also trained closely with the IL Secretary of State Police bomb squad and the SIU bomb squad. He returned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center again for training to serve on the Armed Bus Team. JD has also been an instructor at John. A Logan College in the Adult Continuing Education program since 2000.

JD resides in Johnston City with his wife Danielle who is the Principle at Johnston City High School. JD has two adult children Joel, who is a service writer at Marion Ford Quicklane, and Johnna who graduated from John A Logan RN program in May of 2014. JD is an active member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion. JD is also president of the local chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation Little Egypt Longbeards. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, camping and hiking. JD is also a amateur chef and has volunteered his skills to several local organizations.
